Work hard, Play hard

Endometriosis Bootcamp is a residential surgical meeting in the Brenta Dolomites. We ski in the mornings. We teach and discuss in the afternoons, Monday to Friday, and often into the evening.

That format is deliberate. You arrive on Sunday and leave the following Sunday, and for the week in between the faculty and the delegates are in the same hotel, on the same mountain, at the same breakfast dinner table (Shaheen is there the whole week and the rest of the faculty will rotate throughout the week). The teaching sessions are interactive and discussion-led — nobody reads slides at you.

But the sessions are only part of it. The conversation you would normally get ninety seconds of in a corridor happens here on a chairlift, over breakfast, or three hours into dinner when somebody finally describes the case that went wrong. That is where surgeons actually learn from each other, and this course is built around it rather than in spite of it.

Nature, health and science

Mountain air in the morning, surgery in the afternoon, a 1,100 square metre spa in between. The setting is not decoration. A week of altitude, exercise and proper sleep is a better state to learn in than a windowless conference centre, and you will notice the difference by Wednesday.

Residential by design

Everyone stays in one hotel. Everyone eats together. That is the whole trick. Over seven days you will get more honest exchange, more useful contacts and more genuine friendships than a year of conferences will give you. Ideas move faster over dinner than across a lecture hall.

WHO IT IS FOR

Whatever level you are at — on the slopes and in theatre

In theatre. Some delegates arrive at the very beginning of their endometriosis practice and want the foundations laid properly. Others are operating at the top end and come to argue technique with people who will push back. The format holds both, because small groups and discussion let people find their own level. Nobody sits through material they do not need.

On the mountain. Madonna di Campiglio has some of the best beginner terrain in the Alps — the wide nursery slopes at Campo Carlo Magno are directly outside the hotel — alongside long descents that will keep a strong skier busy all week. It genuinely does not matter whether you have never clipped into a ski or you are looking for something steep. If you have been meaning to learn, this is a good excuse. Ski school and equipment hire are both arranged on site.

Campo Carlo Magno, 1,650m

We are based at the Carlo Magno Hotel Spa & Resort — ski-in, ski-out, 200 metres from the Grostè cable car, with an 1,100 square metre wellness centre, three restaurants and a free shuttle into Madonna di Campiglio. The nursery slopes start at the door and 155km of connected pistes start just above them.
